The Story of Us
2018 — How We Met
On November 9, 2018 our friends Drew and Ava invited both of us to a Rüfüs du Sol concert. Winnie was in Salt Lake City for the weekend looking for an apartment for her upcoming internship, and Henry was simply excited for a night out. When he saw Winnie for the first time he was completely caught off guard, and the first words that came out of his mouth were “Do you want a shot?”
2019 — The Start of Us
Time spent on FaceTime, trips to Chicago and Cincinnati, and a family wedding brought us closer than ever. One night while visiting, Henry cooked a lobster dinner and asked Winnie to be his girlfriend. She said yes, marking the start of the adventure we would take on together.
2020 — A Year Apart
When the world shut down, Winnie returned to Singapore and we suddenly found ourselves 16 hours apart and more than 8,000 miles away from each other. We kept our connection going through long calls and late nights, and Henry sent an Xbox so we could still spend time together. We played through every Halo multiplayer campaign that year.
2021 — Together Again
After a year apart during COVID, we were finally living in the same city again when Winnie moved back to Salt Lake City for work. We spent the year exploring southern Utah, visiting the red rocks, going to our first NFL game, seeing Garth Brooks and Dan and Shay, and enjoying all the time together we had missed.
2022 — Hook'Em
Winnie moved to Austin, TX to begin her master’s program at the University of Texas. Even though we were long distance again, the one-hour time difference and short flight made everything feel easy. We saw each other almost every two weeks and spent the year traveling for weddings and taking trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Italy, & Charlotte.
2023 — Off To Singapore
Henry flew to Singapore to meet Winnie’s family and see where she grew up. It was his first time in Asia, and we spent the week visiting her favorite spots, seeing the city from Marina Bay Sands, and having dinner on the Singapore Flyer overlooking the F1 track. We ate at hawker centers, had Jumbo Seafood, tried the ice cream sandwiches in bread, and ended the trip with a day at Universal Studios.
2024 — Traveling The World
We started the year in Japan and spent a week skiing with Winnie’s family in Niseko. Henry took Winnie to a Laufey concert in Salt Lake City, and later we soaked up our final months in Austin with highlights like ACL, UT’s first SEC game, and our first taste of Malort. Toward the end of the year we took our first trip, just the two of us, to Portugal and celebrated more friends getting married.
2025 — The Proposal
Months of planning went into the proposal, with keepsakes saved from trips and moments throughout the years. On Sunday, July 20, Henry brought Winnie to the Capitol building in Salt Lake City and shared a scrapbook of their story, ending with the moment he asked her to marry him. And of course, she said yes!
